Walking Florence: 3-hours guided walking tour to Piazzale Michelangelo
Walking Florence: 3-hour Guided Walking Tour to Piazzale Michelangelo
Starting from €63
This walk starts in the heart of the city at the Baptistery, and goes as far as the "Gate of Paradise" of San Miniato al Monte Church.
Meet the guide in front of the Baptistery, with its large gilded bronze doors decorated with scenes from the Old and New Testament. This octagonal building is entirely covered, inside and outside, with geometric decorations mostly made with marble from the ruins of the ancient Roman "Florentia".
The next stop will be Orsanmichele, the most important church in Florence dedicated to an angel. A unique building that is also a monument to the ancient corporations that governed productive activities during the Middle Ages. Here, the Archangel Michael is the pillar that supports the entire construction and protects the city and its people.
We will continue along the Arno river and cross the ancient medieval walls of Florence to the door of San Miniato. From here we will begin to climb the hill.
After a brief stop at the Rose Garden with Folon sculptures, we will reach the church of San Miniato al Monte and its "Porta del Paradiso". Mysteries and symbols inhabit this sacred space, built following the heavenly rules and connections. We will enter a space where time and death lose their power, a space where Christian, pagan, Islamic and Oriental art are living together in a dimension that took shape a thousand years ago and still exists.
